Big Mikes Lure Company

Fine Lures Since 1981

In 1981 my Father started manufacturing our first Trolling Heads out of Brass. One thing he learned right away is that you can cover more water at higher speeds than you can at lower speeds. ( Not exactly rocket science).

Before high speed trolling was the buzz word we trolling at 20 Knots and catching fish. Marlin can swim at 50 knots while attacking bait.

On nice weekends you could find me making one of my hundreds of channel crossings in my 16 foot center counsel aluminum boat: almost always alone, trying new lures and new ways of fishing.  Sometimes I would be out with my dad on his boat and he had a preference for fishing Mako Shark.  The two different methods of fishing blended into the type of lures we used and how our lures were developed.

In about 1983 my father developed the first quick change lure allowing a fisherman to quickly change head style and tail color of a lure saving space, time, weight and money.

Shortly after that time the long rangers were looking for the source of these quick change Wahoo lures that could be cast over a hundred yards.  The fish couldn't leave them alone.  Literally they were hunting for the source of these lures calling the Englebrecht's they found in the phone book and calling from other states, even showing up on the doorstep looking for lures.

Back in 1991 I designed the first of a supper high speed lure that became known as the 809.  The reason is in the first test I did on the design in Cabo San Lucas the lure hit eight out of the nine fish we caught.

Now the cult like following of these lures has grown to the point of having to build a new building and buying new CNC Machines to build in large quantities.

We have never advertised these lures and have not sold to resale accounts.  All of that is going to change.  In the next few months we plan to introduce a more complete line of casters including a more complete line of rigged Wahoo Casters and my own design of casting lures that are Yellowtail candy! By the next fishing season we will expand to other products including plastic lures, terminal tackle, rods and reels.
